SUNY Model European Union
State University of New York (SUNY) Model European Union
The SUNY Model EU is a project funded by the Institute of European Union Studies at SUNY (IEUSS), through the Office of Global Affairs, SUNY System Administration. The Model European Union is an adaptation of the popular Model United Nations (MUN), but differs in its conception, organization, roles, and outcomes. The MUN is, by and large, a simulation for students of diplomacy and foreign affairs, while the Model EU (MEU) simulates some aspects of the institutional structures and decision-making processes of the European Union.
The MEU is hosted by a SUNY in March or April of odd years, and by a European university in early January of even years.
In 2010/2011 Lille 1 University became the first French university taking part in the SUNY MEU. A delegation of 9 MEA students flew to New York, where the SUNY event took place, to represent the teams of the Head of the Government, the Ecofin minister, the Foreign Affairs minister and the Coreper representative of 2 European countries chosen for the delegation by the organizers.
Since then, the Master's degree MEA participates every year in the event:
2012 in Exeter with a delegation of 14 students of the Master's degree
2013, 2015 and 2017 in New York (Global center at Manahatan) with respectivly 13, 14 and 12 of our students
2014 and 2016 in Brussels with respectivly 14 and 16 of our students
The participation of the students of the MEA benefits from the financial support of the Faculty of Economis and Social Sciences and of the University of Lille 1 (International Relations and Student Life departments). But the contribution of students who participate is necessary.
